The highly touted USC Aiken baseball team had a rough start to their season with 2 unexpected losses Saturday.
The Pacers entered the season with very high hopes and ranked 6th nationally. Aiken would get blown out in the first game of Saturday’s double-header with Lincoln Memorial University by a score of 10-3. Lincoln Memorial started the game hot, scoring 3 runs in the top of the first inning. The Pacers starting pitcher, Stephen Spire was taken out of the game after just two innings. Lincoln Memorial would add 2 more runs in the third inning and one in both the fourth and sixth inning.
The Pacers trailed 7-0 after the top of the sixth inning. From this point on the pacers would go on to score 3 points to make the final score 10-3.
Game two of the double header was much closer, but the Pacers still ended up on the losing side 4-3.
Aiken jumped out to the lead in the first inning on a 2 run home run in the first inning of the game. The Pacers fell behind 3-2 but would come back to tie the game at 3 in the fourth inning. Lincoln Memorial added one more run in the seventh inning to give them the win.
Aiken would bounce back in the third and final game of the weekend series. The Pacers woke up offensively to take a 14-5 victory Sunday. The game started out slow then the Pacers jumped out to a 6-0 lead after a 5 run third inning. From then on the Pacers never looked back, collecting their first win of the season
