Pacers come up short in top 25 battle

USC Aiken's Men's and Women's tennis teams took losses to Anderson on Friday at the USCA Tennis Complex.

With a showdown of the top 25 teams, 24th- ranked Anderson (3-2) conquered a 5-3 victory over the 25th ranked USCA (2-2) men. In the women's contest Anderson (4-1) secured a 5-1 defeat over USCA (3-3).

Despite losing all three doubles matches, the USCA men were able to pick up three points in singles. The Pacer's Gregory Andrade ,ranked 38th in the naton, picked up a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 three set victory over Anderson's Stan Atema at No. 1 singles.

The Pacer's final points came at the No.3 and No. 4 singles. Bruno Orlandini captured the victory for the Pacers at No. 3 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Anderson's Ilya Zakharov. Lucas Gobbi defeated Anderson's Daniel Gonzalez with a 6-3, 7-6 at No.4 singles.

In the women's match, Margot Simon took the lone point for the Pacers in a 6-4, 6-2 victory over the Trojans' Avery Owens at No. 2 singles.

Both teams will take on the Pirates of Armstrong Atlantic Feb. 23 at USC Aiken Tennis Complex. Come support the Pacers. PBC Action takes place at 2:30
