If you have a passion for writing poetry and an extra $5 in your pocket then you can become a member of the Guild of Poetic Intent: Savannah River Poets of USCA, a newly formed poetry club. The club meets every Friday at 1:30 p.m. in room 202 in the H&SS building.

Alesha Jones, junior communications major, who was inspired to start a poetry club while enrolled in a Contemporary Poetry course, heads the organization. The club started meeting in February with only 2 members; at present the club boasts 23 members.

Advisors for the club are English faculty members Dr. Roy Seeger and Vicki Collins.

The club made their debut at the Ink Show on April 14. This Wednesday, April 28, the Guild will be holding a poetry slam reading at the Rio Blonco in downtown Aiken. There the group will read poetry that addresses stereotypes.

Guild of Poetic Intent also plans to volunteer throughout the CSRA, specifically at the Augusta Stop-Shop and the Cumbee Center for Battered Women.
