People are constantly complaining that individuals are judging them based on how they dress, who they are seen with, and other unfair criteria. They feel that they are being discriminated against because people don't take the time to get to know them. Let's be honest, everyone has some preconceived idea of a person before they truly know him or her. Without extending into racism, there is no true way to get around that fact. If this is the case, then why not present yourself in a way to convey what you want others to think of you? Why do people think that respect is a birthright? Since when did we, as humans, become entitled to something just because we were born? Everyday people walk around feeling that everything that is here was created for them and that this is their world, and others just live in it.

People demand respect from other people without the common decency to give any out. Respect is not something that you can demand or force out of people. Respect is honor that is given to an honorable person and any reverence given without honor is not, truly, respect. A person may show respect to a total stranger because of common decency. However, this does not mean that the person was privy to this respect. It just mean that someone understood the concept that you have to give respect to receive it. So, if you want people to take you seriously and show you respect look at yourself. Take a look at the respect that you are giving to others and the way you present yourself to them. Maybe, you can find the reasoning behind the way others treat you and it could come down to something as simple as how you present yourself and convey your personality.
