An updated website, expanded database research areas, workshops, and an social events study break are just some of the new programs and services the USCA Library is now offering.

The new website was designed by Reference Librarian Kaetrena Kendrick, M.S.L.S and Government Documents Librarian Paul Lewis. The website is now more streamlined, making it easier to find information quickly. Additionally, there is a feature called “Ask a Librarian” which allows students to converse with a librarian using instant messaging. This feature is especially helpful to those students living off-campus, or in a dorm, which has questions about a topic and don’t have to call or walk to the library.

Research Guides have been expanded to include areas of research such as “International Business.” These categories make it easier for students to go directly to the databases with the accurate information pertaining to their area of interest.

Students have new Library Resources to check out too. These include Europa World Yearbook Plus, known for its accuracy in providing detailed country surveys containing the analytical, statistical, and directory information for over 250 countries and territories; Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center (DISCUS) a career research database of jobs, skills and resources; and LearningExpress Library (DISCUS) a comprehensive collection of test-preparation tools, skill-building materials, and other career and life skills resources .

Workshops are now being offered to students to help with navigating the library’s resources correctly. Two one-hour workshops have already been offered, however, online you can access the presentations at the Library’s homepage under the heading “Information Literacy & Instruction.”

Other workshops planned are: “Locating Literary Criticism” on February 23 (2PM); “Communications Majors Research “Workshop  March 2 (11AM) and March 3 (4PM); and “Locating Primary Resources For History” March 23 at 11AM AND 4PM.

Finally, the Library will be holding a Study Break planned right before final exams. Door prizes, snacks, and Hulu are part of the break before students start intense studying for their exams.
