A new system, OneCarolina, will replace USC‘s V.I.P. system in the next few years.
OneCarolina will no longer require students to use their Social Security numbers as their login identification. The idea of this new technology was developed in 2005 and was anticipated to go into effect in 2010. However, the university’s budget cuts postponed the induction of the new system. OneCarolina is scheduled to be up and running three years from now.
According Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Services Randy Duckett, the USC V.I.P. system was developed in the 1970s and was one of the best in the nation. Implementation of the project will be in four stages. The first concern is setting up the Student Information System, which includes student records, class selection and scheduling, financial management, and communication. Financial operations and overall connectivity among the USC branches will be the next phase in the system’s productivity. Various features such as submission for research grants and other resources will come into effect. The final stage of OneCarolina’s implementation is the human resources component regarding employment and benefits management. (www.usca.edu)
Duckett stated, “I think the USC system has a done a great job in the last 30 years with our system. This will transform the system in terms of technology.”
USC Aiken will have its own version of the system called OneCarolina Aiken, and Karen Smith will coordinate the project.
