South Carolina was covered in snow along with 48 other states in the afternoon on Feb. 12.
Friday’s snowfall was the most in the area since January 2002 when 5 inches covered Aiken. (aikenstandard.com) As much as 5 inches of snow blanketed city along with the USC Aiken campus.
Students gathered to have snowball fights, build snowmen, and had other sorts of fun in the unusual weather throughout the residential areas of campus.
“This was completely unexpected. I’m glad that it actually snowed, and that was most fun I’ve had on campus all year,” said senior biology major Justin Gavin.
While most people throughout the area enjoyed the recreation brought by Old Man Winter, public safety officials warned motorists not to travel to far out or at all because of how icy the roads became.
Power outages were reported across the county, and the residential area on campus experienced very brief outages as well.
According to the NY Daily News, over two-thirds of the country was covered in snow. All of the states in the U.S. except for Hawaii experienced the snowy weather. (nydailynews.com)
