The Pop Princess, Katy Perry, has been giving us hits since 2007 with her controversial "I Kissed A Girl." Fast-forwarding 3 years later she releases her sophomore album along with another smash hit "California Girls" ft. Snoop Dogg. She has been up for 78 award nominations and gained 16 awards in the past 3 years. Her latest album "Teenage Dream" is the first no-concept concept album. Album sales are at an all time low in the music industry, and Katy Perry along with her label released a 12 song album with two bonus tracks.
Over the next year Perry will release each song off the album in hopes of it gaining a buzz and earning some revenue. This is a lose-win situation, because nothing will be left on the album for fans to only have and view, but everything will be released to gain revenue for decent album sales.
"Teenage Dream" is a summer fun, young adult album. Many songs consist of young love, sex, and having a good time. The title track of the album, "Teenage Dream" is the second single off the album and slowly finding its way up the billboard charts. "Last Friday Night" will definitely be the party anthem for 2010 young adults. "Firework" is another typical love lost track with a catchy dance backbeat.
"Peacock" chants in the lyrics "…I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock your peacock, cock" a tainted way of persuading sex. "Circle the Drain" is an ode to her then boyfriend Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes. She takes a stab at his lack of respect and love in their relationship, and states how better off she is without him. "The One That Got Away" is dedicated to another former love interest that she misses dearly, and if given the opportunity to go back in time she would handle everything differently. "E.T", describes a crazy and unusual fling. "Who am I living for?'" is a song dedicated to those young people trying to find themselves as Perry tells her journey to stardom. "Pearl" speaks of an insecure girl who is being mistreated, and deserves better. "Hummingbird Heartbeat" is a dark song about a girl's first time. "Not Like The Movies" is the last and only ballad on the album depicting young love and how it is not always a fairytale. "Teenage Dream" was released August 24 2010 and is definitely a great listen.
