USC Aiken's University Concert Choir performed on Thursday, Oct. 18 at the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Aiken. The Concert Choir is a Fine Arts class taught by Dr. Joel Scraper, who has been at USCA for two years. Scraper teaches students the concepts of artistic choral singing and allows them to apply the techniques and concepts that they have learned in public performances.

The Choir performed songs from several different genres at Thursday's performance, including several traditional pieces and a gospel piece. Scraper has high hopes for this semester's concert choir. "We have a really a young choir this year," Scraper said, "mostly freshman and sophomores, so they don't have much experience with this type of thing but they have a lot of potential and they are really a fun group to work with." Although the choir's first performance is over, they will perform three more times this year, once more this semester and twice next semester. Their next performance will be at USC Aiken's Feast of Carols in December. They will be singing traditional holiday ensembles while incorporating other festive pieces. Next semester the concert choir will also give a Broadway inspired performance in April.
